Natural Hair Transplants

Hair transplants can provide revitalized self-confidence to men and women who suffer from hair loss. However, many people interested in hair transplants often associate surgical hair restoration with pain, scars or artificial-looking results.

Well things have changed. Today’s procedures are minimally invasive and involve little discomfort- with fast recovery times so that you can get back to work and your daily activities quickly. And they provide awesome results- your friends, family and business associates will think you look younger and revitalized without your procedure being obvious.

Modern technology allows us to harvest hair follicles from a donor area of the scalp (the safe zone- located at the sides and back of the scalp) and transplant them to a recipient area. Through hair transplants, we can:

  • Deal with pattern baldness
  • Craft new hairlines
  • Add density to areas of diffused baldness
  • Deal with alopecia or bald spots
  • Enhance beard areas
  • Enhance eyebrows
  • Mask scars
  • Correct hair transplants performed by others

Types of Hair Transplants

We offer two types of hair transplant methods- both of which involve transplanting individual hair follicles into your scalp. The main difference is how those follicles are harvested from a donor area.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) involves the harvesting of individual follicles with a small punch, whereas Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) involves harvesting a strip of scalp that is then dissected into individual follicles.

With either procedure, artistic control over implant design, implantation angles, direction and patterns are personally overseen by Dr. Sreenivasan to ensure aesthetic appearance and naturalness of result.

Worldwide, and in our practice, FUE procedures outnumber FUT procedures about 2:1, as follicular extraction technology has improved with the ARTAS robotic hair transplant system and with more and more patients wanting to keep their hair short with FUE transplants allowing them to do that.

Both procedures have distinct benefits; however, one procedure may be a better fit for you based on your needs. We will assess your scalp and discuss your options with you to ensure you feel fully knowledgeable before deciding which procedure is right for you.

ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant (FUE)

At the forefront of advancements in hair restoration, Sante HRI was one of the first clinics in the world to recognize the benefits of the robotic ARTAS hair transplant system as part of its continuing commitment to provide patients the best treatment options available.

Using sophisticated and exacting digital imaging and mapping to select individual follicular units with precision and speed, ARTAS extends human capability and performance by reducing the human variability and error associated with manual Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) procedures. The benefit of robotics is that the precision of the extraction is more controlled with variables of depth, number of hairs, consistency of grafts and rates of extraction.

This compares to a manual punch or handheld motorized device used by clinics not making the investment in state-of-the-art robotic technology- where the skill and speed of a physician are under constant stress as they must follow the angle and depth of the hair precisely hundreds to thousands of times. This task is almost humanly impossible for even the best surgeons to perform without risking transecting or harming the integrity of the follicles.

ARTAS’s reduced harvesting time, low transection rates and minimal graft wounding leads to healthier grafts with higher survival rates – which means excellent results for patients.

And unlike FUT procedures, there is no scalpel, stitches or staples required. And no linear scar where the ‘strip’ was removed means a patient is free to wear their hair in any style they choose.

Because the procedure is minimally invasive, most patients find their ARTAS procedure virtually pain-free with much shorter recovery times versus a FUT procedure.

After a few months, the transplanted hair will begin to grow in its new location. Your newly transplanted hair, like the rest of your hair, grows steadily over time. Around six months, you will start to notice significant growth. The hair will continue to grow in the treated areas over the coming months.

Experience counts- no one in Canada has performed as many ARTAS procedures as Dr. Sreenivasan and Sante HRI.

Surgical Strip Hair Transplant (FUT)

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), commonly referred to as a ‘strip’ procedure, is a great means of harvesting large volumes of hair follicles by using a scalpel to remove a carefully determined section of the donor area (back of scalp) and dissecting this tissue with meticulous precision under a microscope to harvest individual follicles to implant.

The advantage to this procedure is it allows for a larger harvest of grafts and does not require shaving of the donor area.

The disadvantage, for some patients, is that it leaves a faint but perceptible linear scar across the back of the scalp where the ‘strip’ was removed (and scalp tissue sutured), which may preclude certain hairstyles in the future. As part of your consultation, we will look at examples of linear scars, and explain the proprietary techniques Dr. Sreenivasan has developed to minimize their appearance- so that you can make an informed decision if the procedure is right for you.

Being a slightly more invasive procedure than FUE, patients generally require a week of healing for suture removal before resuming their normal activities.

After a few months, the transplanted hair will begin to grow in its new location. Your newly transplanted hair, like the rest of your hair, grows steadily over time. Around six months, you will start to notice significant growth. The hair will continue to grow in the treated areas over the coming months.

If you have a considerable amount of hair loss and you are not opposed to a linear scar, dollar for dollar a surgical strip hair transplant procedure is tough to beat.

Beard Transplants

Most people that have facial hair attribute their self-confidence to the ability to grow a thick, full beard. However, some individuals experience bare or sparse patches in their facial hair.

Beard restoration has become more popular over the last several years, in fact we at Sante HRI have performed dozens. If you want a fuller more structured beard, we are often able to help with either FUT or FUE transplantation.

Other reasons patients consider beard transplants are genetic conditions leading to beard alopecia, or camouflageing scars or burns. Whatever the reason, we can help.

Eyebrow Transplants

Have thin or sparse brows left you feeling self-conscious?

More and more we are seeing patients coming in with thinning or complete loss of eyebrows. This can be from over-plucking, hormonal disease, age or genetics. Eyebrow transplantation is an effective means of restoring naturally growing hair to the eyebrow region in order to create a beautiful frame to the eyes. Give your brows the boost they need.

Hair Transplant Scar Revision

Unhappy with the resulting scar from a prior FUT hair transplant surgery?

If a wound was not treated correctly, encountered healing complications, or the scar tissue is thick enough to hinder movement, surgical scar revision is often the preferred approach. By removing part or all of the existing scar tissue, we can help ensure the new scar is smaller, subtler, and less restrictive.

For less severe or discoloured scars, our laser options penetrate the skin to soften the scar tissue and increase collagen production- reducing its appearance.

Finally, scalp micropigmentation is a simple means to camouflage a scar- to create the visual impression of uniformity throughout the donor area.

Hair Transplant Corrections

No one should feel self-conscious about their hair. If you have already taken steps to change your natural hairline or encourage more uniform hair coverage, and are not happy with it, we would be pleased to correct it. Our experienced and passionate hair transplant professionals can help you get the thick, lush head of hair you have always wanted.

We've all heard that regular trims are the key to maintaining long, healthy hair. While this is true in one sense, it's important to know that trims are not associated with hair growth. Hair stylists recommend regular trims to cut off ends that have been damaged by heat and styling, allowing the hair to maintain a healthier appearance. However, there is no correlation between trims and the rate at which hair follicles renew. There are many factors that can cause hair loss, such as genetics, stress or hormonal issues, but the frequency of cutting one's hair is not one of them. When it comes to resurfacing treatments, not all are created equal. Some provide a quick refresh, while others require more downtime. Some are meant to alleviate minor texture issues, and some go deeper into the dermis to tackle significant damage. Some target beautiful, youthful skin, and others target equally beautiful aging skin. Whatever option it may be, resurfacing treatment work to remove dead skin cells and layers of damage, leaving the skin sensitive to harmful UV rays, which makes the months before summer heat the best time to have resurfacing treatment done. Our team of specialists have years of experience that allow them to help patients understand what treatment their skin needs as well as the best way to take care of it post-treatment.
