It is no secret that snoring can be disruptive to those trying to sleep around us, and there is evidence to suggest that snoring can also impact the quality of the snorer’s sleep as well.
In severe cases, snoring could be a symptom of sleep apnea- a condition that can cause the patient to intermittently stop breathing while they sleep, depriving the brain of oxygen. Without intervention, sleep apnea can have serious consequences for your health.
Using our Fotona laser technology, we offer a procedure called NightLase, which helps open the airways and reduces the impact of snoring.
When the soft palate (the soft part at the back of the roof of your mouth), the uvula, and other tissues in that area loosen, they can partially obstruct your airways as you sleep. NightLase uses a special fractional laser handpiece to tighten those tissues, preventing them from relaxing into an obstructive position.
As the laser is applied to the back of the mouth and throat, it stimulates collagen production. Collagen works to tighten these tissues, giving them more lift and less elasticity. This helps prevent the airway from closing, which can reduce the volume and frequency of snoring and sleep apnea.
On average, a NightLase treatment takes about 20 minutes. Most patients only need about 3 treatments in total, scheduled at regular intervals. Some patients report noticeable results after the first treatment, and most report minimal pain or discomfort.
One study found that after three treatments, patients reported more than 85% improvement.
This procedure does not require any anesthesia, so you will be able to drive yourself to and from your appointment and resume your daily activities immediately after.
