Old Looking Hands
Much attention is given to the treatment of conditions related to sun damaged and aging skin of the face, neck and décolletage. The hands are one of the most tell tale signs of the aging process at work, however, they are often overlooked in as part of an anti-aging regimen. Due to the amount of exposure to the elements, hands can appear older than the rest of our bodies. Often we find many of our patients looking younger than their chronological years in the face and eye areas--but tired, old looking hands give away their true age.
As we age, our hands loose plumpness and the skin becomes thinner making tendons, veins and joints appear more visible. The texture of the skin may develop a tissue like appearance and often age spots are prevalent. Hereditary can contribute to an aging hand appearance, as well as weight loss, weight gain and loss of unhealthy lifestyle decisions such as prolonged sun exposure and excessive smoking and drinking.
In cosmetic medicine today, there is increasing attention being paid to resolving these conditions and restoring a more youthful colour and appearance to the hands.
Sante Medical uses a variety of techniques and procedures to treat old looking hands. One of the most common techniques involves the use of fractional lasers. Fractional lasers send tiny laser beams into old looking hand skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and promoting skin tightening. Fractional laser resurfacing treatments can be performed relatively quickly, under topical anesthesia and can provide a significant tightening and wrinkle reduction for the back of the hand.
Other techniques used in combination include the injection of Dermal Fillers to provide substance and bulk to the aged bony appearance that can occur on the back of the hands, smoothing the overlying skin and reducing the appurtenance of protruding hand veins. ICON IPL or Forever Young BBL photo rejuvenation can remove brown and age spots. Broken capillaries can be removed with our Varilite or Excel V vascular lasers.
